Immersing in Fie Eike's 'The Water': A Review

The artist Fie Eike, who you definitely should lend a discovering ear to, has just released a new single titled “The Water''. The song is a ballad featuring soft, sultry vocals with a lot of interesting effects, tasteful piano, low/thuddy drums, and a mix of effects that tie the song together. All the elements used in the song come together very well, and you can tell they were chosen with intention and taste. I think, in some parts, the track kind of flows like water. If not owing to the title, I might not have had that thought, but needless to say, the theme and production are very cohesive.

One thing I love about indie artists and the availability of almost everything in this world is that we have a lot of artists who produce their own music and are actively in control of their entire creative processes. This is true for Fie, who produced, wrote, and performed the song. This trend really brings out the extremes in people and their music. Because if you have an inexperienced/directionless artist who also has complete control of their entire production chain, the result might be a disaster. Compared to Fie, however, I am so very glad she seems to have control and direction over her creative process, because I am sure if she continues in this fashion, good things are bound, and will continue to happen.

This song brings a very relaxed feeling, and if you like it, I suggest you also listen to Fie’s song “Sad”, which she recently released. I will say it has been a while since I fully dug into pop/soft pop and ballads like “The Water”, but her vocals kind of remind me of something that Lana Del Ray could have sung. I don’t know if Fie would be open for it in this case, but I think just the vocals on this track could also make a pretty cool, danceable EDM track.

As far as we know, Fie is set to release a full-length album sometime in the future. She will drop a few more singles before this though, and we can’t be more excited! This track has a little bit of a different vibe from her previous release. She is still very much following a calm/relaxing/soft path, in every good sense of the meaning of those words, but “The Water” is almost meditative. The track really sounds like something you could meditate to. I suggest, even if you have not yet learned to meditate, that you just take a few minutes to sit down and listen to this release by Fie. You could be one of the pioneers in discovering this fantastic artist!
