Review: Demi Lovato - Still Alive

Demi Lovato must now be classed as one of the superstars of the pop world. Having initially found fame in 2007 as a star of the Disney Channel’ ‘As the Bell Rings’, her career as a singer took off soon after and she became an idol and role model for millions. There are some impressive statistics too for Lovato to reflect on with her songs, her astonishing 5.6 billion streams and 2.7 million album sales would suggest an artist who is basking in her popularity and she continues to give fans some excellent music.

The Scream franchise of films are still going and this track is taken from the sixth installment. The lyrics therefore are a fitting accompaniment to the film and the reference to still alive becomes quite clear. What is also really good about the song is the video that goes with it, as it makes the concept a little easier to follow and grasp, but is also beautifully cinematic in the way it is put together.

Demi Lovato has an incredible voice, that’s something that should not be news, but Still Alive pushes the dexterity of it, with some searing vocals and some contrasting lower tones, particularly in the opening verses. From the very outset the song grabs your attention with some beautiful eerie synths that set the mood, then a heavy heavy guitar that pushes the pace of the song. The production is so slick, and the breaks and texture of the different sections take you on a real journey of music. The whole concept is brilliant and the delivery and composition mean that this song is going to be heard a lot of the next few weeks and I imagine it will net Demi Lovato even more fans to her already impressive dedicated followers.
