Role Model ‘A Little More Time’ review: simple yet intricate soft natured song

Role Model is a US based artist, who even at the tender age of 25 has already reformed his musical career. Starting life as a rapper, under the pseudonym of Tucker, he changed to singing in early 2017 and adopted his new name of Role Model, and the rest as they say, is history. With an eclectic set of influences, we now see the influences in his work.

Lyrically the song is really interesting. Because of the soft nature of the arrangement, the lyrics glide over a soft acoustic guitar backing, quite reminiscent of the 1990s Verve sound. The song tells a story of needing A Little More Time with a partner, needing time to work out how things could be in the future and if things are worth working out.

The production on A Little More Time is simple, yet at the same time intricate enough to provide subtle layers of development as the song progresses. The one area I noticed early in the song was the warmth within the vocal tone. With such a stripped back sound in the beginning, it is the vocal that fills the void. As the song progresses there is more instrumentation added, although not a huge amount, because the focus of the song relies on the acoustic guitar pattern and vocals. Whilst the lyrical meaning may have a negative connotation, the overall blend of songwriting and production is quite beautiful.
