Review: RuPaul (Ft Skeltal Ki) A.S.M.R lover

RuPaul needs little introduction. The 62 year old has been a household name for a long time. For this track he has teamed up with mixer, rapper and producer Skeltal Ki, a lesser known artist, but one that certainly provides a lot of interest to the music!

If you are one of the few people in the world that doesn’t know what ASMR is, it stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, which is essentially a tingling or relaxed feeling you can get with certain noises.I found this out by accident as a student, when I worked in a call centre. I just found some peoples’ voices sent me to sleep!! Thanks to YouTube, the phenomenon has exploded and RuPaul is latching on to it.

I think the lyrics of this track are quite clever, they talk about the feelings that you get when someone talks to you and makes you feel safe and likening it to the feeling you get from ASMR. The vocals are split into two sections, with a simple flow during the sung element, which reinforces the feeling that the singer gets from this lover, is the same feeling they get from ASMR. Then the middle section the words seem a little different, a little more tongue in cheek towards the notion of ASMR.

The backing is a soft synth track, sitting over a trap beat. The production is tight with effects on the vocals to break up sections. Towards the end of the song you can hear the deliberate over autotune, and tight breaks. It’s a track that works if you are trying to sit back and relax, but also is a nice accompaniment if you are running. However, it isn’t an ASMR trigger!
