Aussie Amy Shark Releases Stunning New Track “Only Wanna Be with You”

Australian singer / songwriter Amy Shark may have just finished a massive tour and still be reeling from the success of her Aria wins and her stunning debut album “Love Monster,” (2018) and incredible follow up “Cry Forever” (2021) but the 36-year-old clearly isn’t slowing down any time soon.
“Only Wanna Be with You” has just landed as her first single for 2022. No details on a new album yet, but if this track is anything to go by, Shark is cooking up something very special for us all. Once again, she has given a taste of edgy pop at its finest. Sweet, yet not too delicate is fast becoming her trademark.
Shark has a unique way of tapping into the psyche of her fans, seeming able to read them better than they can read themselves. Her perceptiveness into human nature has afforded her well throughout her musical career and this latest offering is no exception.
“Only Wanna Be with You” is a story of heartbreak and trying to fill the void with others that will never make the grade. We have all been here. In love with someone we cannot have so trying to find that magical connection in other people. Trying, and failing.
But do not let the subject matter fool you. This song is anything but depressing. It will tug your heart strings, but it will also fill you with a resounding sense of hope. Shark’s beautiful vocals are always such a joy to hear, and she really finds her feet with this song. Nothing is overdone. It is beautifully understated but gives us more than enough to really feel the emotions behind the track, without any sense of showing off or trying too hard.
Everything about this song feels effortless. The video pairs wonderfully with the subject matter. We see a blonde Amy Shark for the first time, a clear parody of the old adage of changing your look to get over a heart break. But it is so well done. So masterful and lovely, even after multiple watches and listens.
