Leaning a bit more heavily into the R&B side of her music, Laufey presents to the world a soft lullaby of a slow R&B jam, titled ‘Everything I Know About Love’.

Opening up with a classical piece, laufey foreshadows the interjecting pieces that connect various sections in the track, bringing a whole different flavor to her usual spin on R&B. One thing to note that’s exceptionally wonderful with this track is how well it flows from start to finish. Each section is very distinct from one another, but the way they all tie from one to another feels almost too perfect. The only time there’s a moment of halt is for the classical sampling between the first chorus and second verse, and the final chorus closing the song. Otherwise, each section builds beautifully atop one another, perfectly mimicking a gentle ride of a beach-side wave. Though this song is much more R&B than anything else, her jazz background just can’t escape her, to the listeners’ benefit. The melodic movement over otherwise simple chords are extremely complicated, and perfectly executed. The chord progression itself is quite exciting, especially for a music nerd such as myself. The chorus is extremely catchy, infectiously so. I found myself humming the melody I wished to hear giving the context of the verse, prechorus, and the chord progression that ties it all together, and it always landed exactly where my ear wanted to hear, expected or otherwise. The harmonies are very Billie Eilish-esque, which suits the tone wonderfully for ‘Everything I Know About Love’.

The single is one of laufey’s greatest, mixing the complex harmony and melody of Jazz with R&B for flavor, and connecting the pieces with classical bits, who stand at the polar opposite of the highlighted genres in ‘Everything I Know About Love’. Laufey shows the world her genius once again in such a wonderful offering to the musical realm.
