Virginia To Vegas have released a song that’s sure to find itself on many people’s summer playlist with his light-dance track, ‘Amnesia’, off his newest EP titled ‘it’s a little complicated, but I’m okay’.

The chord progression of ‘amnesia’ foreshadows what’s to come, despite the soft synth sounds and the gentle chords floating idly for a couple repetitions. The tight, snappy drums are first to enter the soundscape, sure to make every listener bob their head lightly to the groovy, yet soft groove consistently driving the song forward. The chorus’ melody, enhanced with an octave harmony that spreads to ethereal chordal vocal harmonies, lead the listeners to an unexpected rap verse. Though a surprise, its variety is appreciated, and the very casual demeanor of the performance invites such a tone to the composition. The song closes with the musician’s main instrument of choice – a beautiful and soulful guitar solo. The overdriven notes carry the song to an end alongside the latter harmonies of the chorus, wrapping the packing in a well-knit bow. The production is very floaty, feeling like a hovering cloud over the rocky canyon that is the rhythm section. The heavy reverberation on almost every instrument, and the casual layering of vocal and synth adds a lot to the vibe of the finished product. It wraps nicely from start to finish, especially since the song focuses mostly on a single chord progression to build from, and its short length begs for another listen, every time.

‘Amnesia’ is a very casual, yet groovy dance track. The groove is very strong, but everything about the song feels so relaxed, which provides a nice contrast between the rhythm and the instrumentation. Only in the chorus is the rhythm consistent across most instruments, which elevates the chorus brilliantly, along with its infectiously repetitive melody that’s sure to be stuck in your head.
