Review: One Right Now Post Malone ft. The Weeknd

In an unexpected collaboration, Post Malone and The Weeknd blended their strengths together to compose a 80s pop anthem worthy of praise.

Post Malone has always had a knack for exploring different musical venues. Prior to being the hiphop sensation behind ‘White Iverson’, the artist was a guitarist for an ‘Asking Alexandria’ cover band, just about the complete polar opposite of ‘White Iverson’, or pretty much any song off his debut record ‘Stoney’. The Weeknd, on the other hand, has been delving deeper into the sounds that made the 80s so nostalgic to such a large crowd, and in that time has almost perfected the vibe without sounding tiring or unoriginal. The two of them together, however, is a force that can’t be stopped. The four-on-the-floor drive that fuels the track sheds a whole new light for Post Malone, one that begs for more. The tight synths that are widened with that classic 80’s reverb is incredibly endearing to the tone the two tried, and succeeded, to achieve. This is also one of Post’s most impressive vocal performance. It felt like just yesterday the artist claimed he relied on autotuned to sound good. With ‘One Right Now’, he gives a performance that matches the skill and emotion The Weeknd gives in the track.

It’s always a blessing when two megastars put their minds together to try something new, rather than simply doing what sells. You can tell there was a lot of passion and love put into the track, with the two artists giving their all into both the production and the vocal performance. ‘One Right Now’ is one of the greatest collaborations of the year, and arguably stands as Post Malone’s greatest work so far, a worthy continuation of his last album, ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’.
