Review: Sticky - Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes

Ahh yessss ! Punk rock and sticky, beer-soaked carpet, a unique smell that’s hard to forget.

With their latest effort titled “Sticky”, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have given us a punk rock anthem with some pop sensibilities. It’s punk rock for the modern audience, punk rock that still holds true to its anti-establishment roots, whilst appealing to an inclusive, progressive, younger demographic.

The intro and first half of the verse feature a distorted bass, accompanied by a steady rock beat and Frank Carters entertaining vocals. Onto the prechorus, some riffy guitar parts are introduced and Frank increases the intensity of the vocals, which builds the song nicely into the chorus.

In the chorus, the whole band strums and smacks the sound and intensity way up high! The lyrics are so gritty, just what you’d expect from a bunch of punk rockers who give no f#@ks !

Production-wise, the only surprise is the addition of some industrial keyboard sounds, with the rest of the production keeping in sync with pure punk, drums thick in the mix, guitar and bass at full throttle.

The chorus is a highlight, however that bridge (or you could argue, it’s an add on to the chorus), where Frank shout’s “ sticky, sticky, we're getting’ sticky" is even better, and is definitely the main hook of the song.

Frank Carter’s vocal style relies on rhythm and inflection to arrange the almost talk- through- shout- through vocals, this really suits the lyrics of the song, and a killer stand out line has to be “What the f#@k is wrong with me? Kicking around at half past three, in the morning, Horny, Got nowhere to sleep, at least I'm never boring”.

Edgy Lyrics, epic drum fills, dirty bass and a filthy guitar sound mesh really well together in this track, to create a great punk rock song.

Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes are an English punk rock band formed in 2015 by front man Frank Carter.

Their fourth album also titled Sticky, is due for release in October 2021.
