With all the hallmarks of a Disco/Pop anthem, Jessie J is back with a vengeance with her freshly released single, I Want Love.

Jessie launches the song off in full power proclaiming, “I Want Love”. Starting the song off with the chorus and main hook, shows full confidence in the strength of this chorus and signals Jessie’s intent from the outset.

The verse kicks in with a palm muted guitar line played in triplets. The use of triplets creates a danceable rhythm, one that could be compared to Heart’s classic “Barracuda”, and that you would also find in many Disco anthems.

Piano chords introduced, help to frame the verse nicely and give Jessie’s soulful vocals a chance to shine.

The huge chorus is delivered emphatically with full production sound. The melody in the chorus is quite simple and almost predictable. As the melody progresses, it wants to resolve itself. It takes you where you wished it would and holds no surprises.

Jessie shows off her vocal versatility in the bridge, by taking the vocal register down low and softening her delivery with real finesse, before sliding into a higher and powerful register exploding into the chorus, this time in a higher key. The key change here lifts the song dynamically to a whole other level. It’s clever and presents yet another opportunity to show off Jessie’s vocal range.

The last third of the song sees strings introduced. The strings bring warmth to the production sound and introduce another element which is used cleverly to end the song. A symphonic ending to a Disco style Pop song shows great creative production flair.

Lyrically, I Want Love represents the joy of new found love, which Jessie delivers well in a playful and powerful way. If you’re looking for a new danceable anthem, this is surely it!

The highlight of the song has to be Jessie’s vocals. Jessie takes us on a journey through highs and lows, power and presence. With her soulful runs, raspy tones, and incredible vocal control, Jessie J shows she is a real force to be reckoned with.
