David Bowie Passes Away At 69

The world woke up today to the sad news that David Bowie has passed away after an 18 month battle with cancer at the age of juts 69.

The singer had just released his new album Blackstar on Friday so the news has come as a shock to many, especially since he kept his illness so quiet.
The news was confirmed first by Bowie’s son Duncan Jones and then on his official social media accounts.

The official post said: "January 10 2016 - David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.
"While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

Blackstar has been widely praised by critics, many saying that it is his finest work in years and it is also very poignant with lyrics that seem to hint at his illness.

On the single Lazarus, Bowie sings: "Look up here, I'm in heaven / I've got scars that can't be seen / I've got drama that can't be stolen / Everybody knows me now."

Plenty of stars have taken to social media to share their sadness over the passing of this iconic star.

Iggy Pop took to Twitter to say: "David’s friendship was the light of my life. I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is.”

Eddie Izzard urged radio stations to play nothing but Bowie songs in tribute.
