Sam Smith Confirmed for James Bond Theme

Sam Smith has confirmed that he has recorded the theme for the new Bond film Spectre.

After months of denying it, the singer took to Twitter today to confirm that he recorded the track back in January and he has surprisingly managed to keep it a secret since.

The song is called Writing's on the Wall and was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes.

Smith described the experience of recording the Bond theme as a personal highlight and continued to say: "This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.

"I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."

He went on to talk about the track and the secrecy surrounding it with Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw: "We recorded it in January, and I've been waiting to tell people for such a long time. I haven't told hardly anyone, so this is amazing. I'm excited for today.

"I had to keep this [secret] or I literally would have been shot. I'm so excited for people to hear it. I love the song so much."

Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were keen to show their support of Smith saying: "Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectreand with Sam's extraordinary vocal performance, 'Writing's on the Wall' will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time."

We have yet to hear a preview of the song so can't comment on what it sounds like but Smith has a lot to live up to. The last Bond theme; Adele's Skyfall earned her an Oscar so the pressure is most definitely on Smith.
