Lionel Ritchie enjoys post Glastonbury album surge

Lionel Ritchie graced Glastonbury for the first time over the weekend and it seems that he did something right, enjoying a surge in album sales as a result.

Before he made his appearance, Ritchie couldn't contain his excitement over finally playing the iconic festival. While on stage, he told music fans: "It has been a long time coming but I finally made it to Glastonbury."

The Motown star's set was a huge hit and since the performance, his Definitive Collection has rocketed up the iTunes chart, settling at number four.

In addition to the album enjoying a huge sales boost, it has also turned Ritchie into he most popular Glastonbury artist, based on the sales alone.

According to these figures, the closest competitor is Florence + the Machine with their most recent album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful currently standing at number 6 on iTunes.

Other artists who appeared at Glastonbury including James Bay and The Who have also seen an increase in the sales of albums.

Sadly for them, there is only one artist who appeared at Glastonbury that has seen only a negligible increase in their sales. Kanye West was always a controversial choice for the festival with a petition to see him dropped from the bill gaining support from thousands of people across the world. This did little to discourage the rapper from appearing and his performance has received mixed reviews from festival goers.

West's trademark arrogance on stage did little to warm the audience to him and that seems to be reflected in the post-festival sales.

Lionel Ritchie is surely happy though.
