Boyband Blue have not had the best of luck since their decline from popularity. Now Lee Ryan has become the fourth and final member of the band to file for bankruptcy.

For us mere mortals, it seems unreal that someone who is in a band that was so popular back in the day, however fleetingly could fall from grace quite so badly but he isn’t the first pop star to have run into financial troubles and he undoubtedly won’t be the last.

There seems to be two kinds of the financially ruined pop star. The first is reckless with their money, spending as much as they can on parties and status symbols that imply that they are more successful than they actually are. The second is one who is closer in their reasoning to us common folk. They tried to plan for their future, investing in their own business venture or in that of another. It isn’t their fault that those choices turned out to be bad ones.
All of the Blue boys appear to have fallen a little bit into both of these categories but it is surprising that Lee is the last of them to go bankrupt given his history as a serial partier.

One of the reasons cited for the systematic bankruptcy of all of the members of Blue is the collapse of their company Blueworld. The fact that they had invested their money into something that relied heavily on the maintained success of the band seems very narcissistic, especial given the ruthless nature of the music industry.

You have to give them points for trying as they have been working hard to try and get back into the attentions of the public by taking part in shows such as the Big Reunion and their own show Blue go mad in Ibiza. All of this has done little to change the course of their financial ruin.

Undoubtedly, the will of course try to keep themselves in the limelight by taking part in various daytime TV and Reality TV shows as many have before them and eventually one or all of them may carve themselves a successful career as a presenter or an actor. Many stars have done this before, a prime example being Alesha Dixon and look how successful she is now.

The lesson is that the music industry is a fickle thing, chewing up and spitting out countless hopeful. Some have experienced success as with Blue but all of them should know when to quit and get themselves a real job.
