Beyoncé Signs YouTube Singers

Beyoncé has reportedly signed three young girls after hearing them perform covers of her own songs on YouTube.

The deal is apparently worth over $1 million and has sparked rumours that Beyoncé could be looking to form the next Destiny’s Child.

The girls were first bought to the attention of Beyoncé by her management who saw their videos on YouTube, encouraging the lady herself to sign them.

Artists being “found” on YouTube has become more and more common in the last few years. It’s great for singers who would have no platform on which to broadcast their talent otherwise but is the industry becoming saturated with mediocre singers as a result? Not only this, but are influential artists such as Beyoncé trying to create younger versions of themselves to keep their legacies alive and the cash rolling in?

Young singers posting videos of themselves showing off their talents on YouTube has become extremely commonplace and you can’t browse the site without coming across someone giving their rendition of the popular songs of the moment.

Part of the reason they do this is in the hopes that someone like Beyoncé will come along and make all of their dreams come true by signing them to their record label. There are some truly talented people out there who can not only perform covers well but also create some great original material however, for every one truly talented person, there are dozens of abysmal efforts.

The girls that Beyoncé has signed may be very talented but they could also juts be the best of a bad lot. By sheer numbers of these singers on YouTube, you’re bound to come across someone who is a competent singer but are they really all that talented, or even committed to the idea of becoming a good artist?

Great artists spend years honing their craft and working hard to make it in the business. Being a YouTube star is a good start but the hard work is only just beginning if they don’t want to spend the rest of their careers riding on Beyoncé’s coat tails.
